Onlive's lag tested by Digital Foundry

Onlive, the streaming service which lets gamers play games without the need of console claim that the lag will be at 30- 50 ms. So, guys at Digital Foundry tested it using a PC.

Using Unreal Tournament III, the time needed between button pressed and on screen action is about 150 ms. Other games such as Dirt, and Assassin Creed 2 register lag between 150 ms - 216 ms which is a bit high.

It is unclear how network lag account on this test. If network lag say about another 50 ms, then the game will be too sluggish and unresponsive.

Lag is the biggest problem that can make Onlive fail (other than cost of subscription, of course) because Onlive targeted Hardcore gamers, and hardcore gamers have certain standard acceptable lag range. With those kind of lag, it will definitely scare most gamers. But I do fond of the technology though, I think it's remarkable and groundbreaking. Too bad it's too ahead of its time and boy.. I do wish to have 5 Mbps internet connection here.
