DSi LL/ XL thought

From big to lite to XL. So, the new DSi LL that will be available this year in Japan is just announced. With its bigger size screen otherwise the same machine, DSi is targeted to more senior demographic.
The thing is, with so much version of DS in the market, it will create a confusion among customer. Not to mention that DSi just announced not a year ago. Isn't it too fast?
Personally, I don't really care about this device nor many persons that I know.
Like analyst Michael Patcher said, its nice to have but not must have. It is an alternative, not an upgrade. So, in the end it is basically comes down to personal preference. Would you like a smaller DS but cheaper, or bigger screen but more expensive?
If Nintendo finds that they can increase the market share by introducing this DSi LL, then so be it. In the mean time, I will stick to my DS lite.
In case you are wondering why it is LL in Japan but XL in North America, in Japan the large size of cloth used is LL while in North America it is XL.

Nintendo Wii sales cooled off

So, Nintendo Wii who has been dominating the Japan sales chart recently beaten by reduced price PS3. Not by a huge margin, but it is still eye catching. Iwata confessed that the lower Wii sales could be because of weak software lineup.
Preparing to launch the new Super Mario Bros Wii, Nintendo hopes to get back on track. The Netflix rumour that might come to Wii is also a possibility next year. And if it is true, it definitely will create more added value to the console.
Hopefully Nintendo will launch more good games next year, cause for the past 6 months there is only a handful of "high demand" games that came out.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves review

Title: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Developer: Naughty Dog
Publisher: Sony

So I was just finished playing Uncharted 2: Among Thieves single player and tested some of its multiplayer from day 1. It does live the expectation. Every aspect of the game is awesome.
Firstly single player mode. The story itself is pretty light, but enough to get your attention and interest. The voice actors/ actresses did a very good job, it matches the situation where the characters are in. The dialogue is funny sometimes, Nathan joked a lot and you can quickly feel the characters.
The camera angle, actions are very well executed, I love the scene when Nathan got chased by the tanks, and the moving train. Its a very rare experiences.

The multiplayer mode consisted of Coop and deathmatch. Both are addictive, the coop lets you and other two friends to do a survival, gold rush, or scenario mode. Survival is just like Gear of Wars horde mode. Gold rush need you to steal a treasure and get to certain drop point while trying to pass a horde of enemy. Scenario mode is when you progress like in single player but with other friends.
For deathmatch, it is simple but not hollow. It probably won't match COD in terms of deep. With little choice of weapons, makes the game feels like grab whatever guns you had and start to kill. You can equip perks to enchance your combat situation.
The only drawback is the network. Sometimes during deathmatch, I freezed for about 5 seconds, and frustratingly, you can be killed. There are a lot of times that I already got behind the enemy, but only to shoot 2 bullets then freezed. The enemy turned his back and began shot me until dead.
It very frustrating and makes the game unplayable. I think in this area, Naughty Dog has to learn more from Infinity Ward how to handle multiplayer.
But to sum up, Uncharted 2 is like a three star restaurant meal with dessert. It keeps your stomach full, you get to taste everything and it tastes awesome!!

Score: 9.5/10

Dragon Age: Origins gets a social network of its own

Bioware's upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Origins set to have a social network of its own. Bioware believe that solo play should not be so solo.
When players play Dragon Age: Origins, they have an option to connect to its social network to share information with other players, such as equipment, stats, progress etc. Here is a screenshot.

While this isn't new stuff, Bioware wants solo players to get social, and this is just the beginning. Bioware wants to expand the sharing system by allowing players to see quests completed and real time updates. For example: if a player do a quest and decided to load the previous saves, the stats will change accordingly.
Dragon Age: Origins scheduled to release Nov 3

Xbox 360 has lower avg price due to its Core model, and estimated for every Core, three Xbox Elites sold.

Based on NPD data, PS3 still has lower installation base compared to Xbox 360, and it is unlikely PS3 will match Xbox 360 by the end of year. However, both consoles lagging far away from Wii.

Microsoft responds to banning "unauthorized" storage device in its upcoming update

At last Microsoft announced a statement on why they start banning all "unauthorized" storage device in upcoming Xbox Live update. Many users angered by Microsoft decision, see it as an attempt to force customers to buy more expensive Xbox 360 storage devices.
The reason is... cheaters.
Microsoft goes to great lengths to protect the Xbox 360 and Xbox LIVE service from cheating, which is the primary purpose and use of these unauthorized MUs [memory units]. Unauthorized MUs are not tested for compatibility or certified for safety and compliance standards and thus could damage customer’s Xbox 360 consoles

However, it will probably still not going to cool down the protest. And from personal point of view, it is still pretty weak reasons.

iphone games offer extra life via purchases

This is interesting. A popular parachute games selling through Apple's app store a extension of 5 extra life as a DLC.
Player starts with original 5 lives with the game, and can unlock extra life if reaches 50, 150, 300, 500 and 1000. Each for every milestone.
However, the lazy and have money to spare can buy 5 extra lives for 99 cents so the game will start at a default 10 lives.
While this transaction isn't exactly new, it is however different in implementation. A lot of online game play depends on micro transaction as a source of income. It provides an alternative for less hardcore gamers a short cut, by paying for a better equipment, items to progress or compete better without so much investing in gameplay time.

Uncharted 2 sales beyond expectation, DLC will come before the end of 2009

Uncharted 2 plus reduced PS3's price is equal winning formula. This is no doubt given that every aspect (single player, multiplayer) of this game is awesome. Naughty Dogs said that Uncharted 2: Among thieves is "exceeding expectation" and outselling the original by many, many times.
DLC is planned to roll out before 2009. While Naughty Dogs hasn't been specific, it could be maps, additional characters. Some of those will be free, others might not.
Good news except maybe Naughty Dogs could immediately gives a patch that fix connection problems during Multiplayer. Most irritating is the freeze. You could freeze for maybe 5 secs during deathmatch and get killed most of the time because of that. It makes the game totally unplayable.

"In fact, the future of home entertainment starts very soon when Xbox 360 becomes the first and only console to offer instant-on 1080p streaming HD movies", he added.

Downloadable Content, a glass half empty or half full?

There were a lot of debate about Downloadable Content (DLC) going on in gamers community. DLC is a content that can be download usually with a price to add an extension of the existing game. Usually it can be added story chapters, additional characters, and other bonus such as costumes, weapons, etc.
Half empty:
Games are not cheap. Having spent around $60 for it, it is expected that the game should provide full package.
Instead with DLC, it feels that the masterpiece is not yet complete. Plus some people see it as a way for developers to "milk" the current game and an effort to take some money from gamers. And how about offline players that don't have access to internet? They will be secluded from the content, means that they will never enjoy the experience even if they want it to.
Half Full:
At the other hand, it is true that games is expensive, but so does the development cost. Development cost of a game nowadays is a lot more than used to be. If fact, it is couple millions of dollars more. So developer needs the game to sell well and having good return. One of the strategy is to release DLC to make additional income and to extend life to its game and minimize used game resale.
So if you are looking a glass half full. It is better to have DLC than not at all. At least the choice is yours whether to buy it or not.

Some people might like DLC, but developer needs to be aware to what DLC to offer. It doesn't make sense if the story doesn't sum up at the end of the game. DLC should serve as a bonus for additional experience, not to cut whatever that should have been in there.

RRoD: How they fix it?

RRoD, do they change some components? What is the repair exactly?
I put up an article on how do they fix RRoD in Jakarta. I was curious if other people fix the same way, and so I did some research. Turns out the technique is not so different after all.
Firstly, they disassembled the Xbox 360, all parts including CPU and GPU until you have just the motherboard.
Secondly, they heated up the both sides of the board for 3 - 4 minutes, but you shouldn't stay in one spot for too long, otherwise it may melt some connections.
Third, they replaced the thermal compound which you can find it at computer shop.
After that, assemble your Xbox 360 back and hopefully it should fix the RRoD.
No wonder some people fix their RRoD by wrapping their Xbox 360 with towel to heat it up. Please be careful, if you do that, it may fix your RRoD or if the system is too overheat, some of the plastic parts can melt.
While it sounds easy, it take a bit of skill and know how to disassemble your Xbox 360 and replacing the thermal compound. If not careful, you may break some small pieces of the hardware. I still recommend you go to your repair shop.

Infinity Wards explain further on IW net vs dedicated server

Infinity Wards recent announcement that it will drop dedicated server on upcoming Modern Warfare 2 sparks a huge protests among PC users.
With no dedicated server feature, PC players can't play using private server thus preventing mods support, more probable lag issues, and unsatisfactory match making.
Robert Bowling, IW's community manager, tried to clarify the issue saying that Modern Warfare 2 is the biggest investment IW ever made to PC, and it won't throw players to random match making. In fact, playlists, the party system and friendslists will make playing with clans sessions "easier and hassle free."
The biggest benefit of all is anti cheat system. "The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don't have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters," Bowling writes. "Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it."
However, it still doesn't keep PC users satisfied. Up to date petition for IW to enable dedicated server reached 108.000 names.

PSP go won't let you play games from different account

I just bought a PSP go. And I started buying PSP games from Playstation store, and I thought same principle apply to PS3. I have many accounts for different region in my PS3 since every content is different with each region. In PS3 it's doesn't matter from which region the games are purchased, you can still play it with your different account.
So I test buying a PSP minis on Region 3, and few days later, I saw a game that in Region 1 that is unavailable in Region 3. So I make the purchase, and alas, my PSP told me that you have to choose one activation at a time. Means that I had to leave one game practically useless. So I learned the lesson the hard way, luckily it was just a PSP minis.

Xbox Live's upcoming big update sum up.

In June, Microsoft said that Xbox Live will get an update by this fall that includes hi def 1080p video content as well as twitter, facebook, and Last FM integration (only applicable to gold Xbox live members).
However, there are more that previously not mentioned. It will also have "Music marketplace" channel majority for downloadable content of music games like Rockband, Guitar Hero and Lips. It will also provide contents for Microsoft's own Zune handhelds.
"News and more" channel provides user to read from news portal such as MSNBC.com as well as watching news video.
But there is a bad news, the update apparently will lock out any unauthorized storage device. Means that user will forced to use Microsoft's original devices which are pricier. So before any of you update your Xbox Live, make sure you have transferred all your files from your current "unauthorized" storage device to your device. Otherwise you can't access your file thereafter.

Nintendo's help system, good or useless?

The very own Nintendo's dynamic help system that is going to be implemented into Super Mario Bros Wii will give a more casual player to past obstacles that found within the game. Should it made the game too easy?
Call me stupid, but I never be able to finish any of NES Mario. I often died either by the enemy or falling into a pit. Maybe it is a bad hand coordination, and I really suck when playing platformer games that "die if you fall into a pit" ie: Ninja Gaiden, Rockman.
After couple tries, frustration came. And what happen after that? Either the player get more enthusiastic with the challenges or simply drop the game entirely.
Alas, second scenario will likely happen to casual gamers which are the majority of Wii buyers. I often see that casual gamers are quickly lost interest with a game that considered too hard for them.
With the new system, Nintendo hopes to soften the problem and made the game more accessible to new players.
Some says that it will get the game too easy for veteran, but according to Nintendo, there are always more challenges like secrets, collectibles and bonuses should the player interested to explore.
It is interesting to see how the system will impact, and it certainly won't hurt having such system in a game.

A brief insight: Nintendo's help system

Nintendo definitely trying to reach more casual players and you probably heard about Nintendo's help system that is going to be implemented in the new Super Mario Bros Wii.
It is a system that Nintendo has patented and the it is enabled when player has a certain number of death within a stage. It will give the player an option to watch a demonstration in form of video on how to overcame that particular obstacles.
Interestingly, it's not just a video, player can take control the character and jump into the action whenever he/she feels right away. So it is possible to overcame the obstacle without actually do it.
However, the demo won't reveal any secrets, bonuses, or collectibles and it won't beat the level for you.

DLC, online multiplayer, it is a trend and it benefits all.

Digital era sure change how games are made nowadays, and it is a trend that most games has DLC and online multiplayer.
So what could be the reason?
Internet nowadays made things easier. Developers can release a download post launching, whether to fix some bugs or to add more contents to their games.
DLC and online multiplayer however, sometimes released by developers not just for adding more experience to gamers or more logical reason.. more money.
Its a strategy for consumer to hold on to their games and not to resell it.
Used games is always a headache for developers. A lot of people play a new release game for few days and sell it while the price is still good, thus reducing sales and profit. By giving additional DLC, and multiplayer, developers hoped to give a life extension to the game and reduce resell.
An example is Eidos giving a free DLC to its Batman: Arkham Asylum free of charge. While it wouldn't give any profit to Eidos, at least they can compensate into more sold copies.
Indirectly, by giving DLC and multiplayer, players forced to log in into the internet and help reduce piracy since modded console definetely banned from online play.
So what's in it for gamers? Some hated it for paid DLC, but there are lots of free stuffs as well. At least we are given something extra for our games and it certainly won't hurt having online multiplayer.

New chip to power new NDS by 2010

Tegra is developed to be used in smartphones as well as devices like Zune HD.
So after NDS, NDS lite, NDSi, what else? It is getting hard to keep up with handhelds because new systems will just pop out every year. This is kind of alienating existing customer. Already with NDSi launched, people with NDS or NDS lite can't enjoy games that utilize the camera. It is quite confusing for the customers, and suppliers don't you think?

Story telling become an important element in games.

In the past, we used to talk about graphics, graphics, gameplay and graphics for a game. The first thing we want to know, how graphics were improved over the last game.

But now, since there isn't much technology jump as in the past, graphic isn't the main drive anymore. Sure, better lightning effects, more polygons, better AI. And I'd love and appreciate game with awesome graphics but the improvement game after game is marginal.

One of the things that games have a major improvement is story telling.

It is now an important part of the game with a good story telling. Take a look, for example: the length of cinematic in MGS4 probably the same length with playing the game itself.
I remembered my friend said about playing Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney on DS, "How come a game with just bunches of pictures can make this game so addicting?". True, Phoenix Wright in terms of gameplay is practically nothing, it is very simple and easy, but the story is just amazing, good character development, blended with funny jokes makes the games a hit.
The other one is upcoming Heavy Rain. This is the game for people who are interested in stories and emotions. Heavy Rain is focus heavily on the story and human interaction.

Bioware said that there is a possibility that story telling will become more important than gameplay itself.
Maybe he's right. Bioware's Mass Effect series put a lot of emphasis in story telling. Though the combat itself is nothing ground breaking, I really enjoyed Mass Effect mainly because of the story.

Typical game nowadays range around 10- 15 hours to complete instead of 20- 40 hours in the past.
10- 15 hours is seems to be the appropriate length for story telling. It provides good story pacing, and like a book or movie, it has opening, main plot, twist and turn, climax and anti- climax and ending without dragging too much into the story.

I believe good story telling can make a game great instead of good. And there is definitely a market where people play games for a good story.

Uncharted 2 coming to Jakarta on street date!!

Sony Indonesia confirmed that it will be getting Sony exclusive Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on 14th October only at Grand Indonesia Sony Center.
But to its dissapointment, 30 copies is only available at the moment and each person can buy only a copy. It will be price at Rp 650.000,- first come first serve basis.
To why so little copy, Sony might just testing the market and see how the sales is going. But 30 copies? Come on.
It is really great to see Sony support to Indonesia by getting street date game. Hope it will continue. Great work Sony!!

Game Review : Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising

Alright Time for another Game Review. Last week I got my hands on the Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising. And here is my Review of the game.

Title : Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Developer : Codemaster
Publisher : Codemaster
Release Date : October 6th, 2009 (US)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is a direct sequel from the first Operation Flashpoint 10 years ago.
The story have evolve from the US army fighting the USSR in the coldwar to US Marines Fighting the Chinese PLA (People Liberation Army) in the near future.

There are much story behind OP:DR. It is very boring actually. There is no Big Bang Boom like Call of Duty 4. They just send you to do some mission with out a great detail behind it. It make you want to say "HAH? That's it?" in the end of the game.

With all the hype from the Codemaster about the game, I must say its a disappointment.

These are couple things that I found quite annoying in the game.

1) In Single Player, you can't even choose what weapon you want to use. They let you see what you going to have on the mission but you have don't have the flexibility to change it or put different attachment to it. You stuck with what ever layout they give you. So if you want a Sniper Rifle that your team mates have, you just have to kill him at the start of the level and pick up his weapon and ammo. IT SUX! I don't even know why the did this.

2) I see this mistake many many times in FPS shooting games. Only some of them get its right. OP:DR has make the same mistake again. (Codemaster claim that they have research the all the weapons in the game to the detail) YEAH RIGHT! Come on people!

The problem is at reloading sequence. I know, Not many people can see this problem because they don't have a good knowledge about guns. BUT! Mistake is a mistake. For example :

Some of US weapons with a Close Bolt system don't have to be cock it very time you change magazine. You need cock your weapon only the first time you ready it for combat. After that, if you change to a new magazine all you got to do is press the bolt catch release button and your weapon is ready to fire again. you do not need to cock it again and again. Even though not every weapon use this system, but many of the current US weapon using this system. eg (M4A1, M16, SCAR L, SCAR H)
I can brag more in this matter if I want. I Still find some other mistake on the reloading sequence. But that's for other time.

3) Both enemy and friendly AI are stupid. But enemy AI even more dumber. The enemy certainly don't have any clue about cover. When you shooting at them, they will star running towards you without thinking they can be pick off one by one. Some of them start shooting and some of them crawling on the ground. Easy pray for me and my team to kill them.
the friendly AI are stupid too. When you shooting the enemy, suddenly they will jump in front of you firing line. MY GOD how dumb is that? Again, when you ask them to clear a building and defend them. they will be sitting around about 40 m outside the building. And they do a lot more stupid things in the battlefield.

4) I am quite disappointed that in some level we are not allow to use some vehicle. For example I shoot a enemy helicopter pilot once. and the helicopter landed near my position intact. so I come running for it and try to board it my self. it turn out that you can't use it. the only time you got a change to fly a helicopter are only in Mission one and the last mission. Some times in one of the mission I found an abandon car so I think I want to ride it, turns out that you can't board it at all.

5) Checkpoints. OMG! it is really annoying! Codemaster once told us that OP:DR is an open world military simulation. You free to choose your way to finish your mission. It turn out you can do it! YEEEEAH! But there is a catch here. If you don't follow the way point they plan it for you, you won't get the Checkpoint. So if you die, you just have to restart from the last checkpoint you got. Not really open world huh? For example : After I save some POW, I need to take them to the EZ (Extraction Zone) I look at the map, the EZ are about 2 KM away from where I am. The way point tells me to go follow the road. But I say we go through the mountain to cut some corners. So I walk to the EZ through the mountain and countering light resistance here and there but no problem at all. When about 600 Meters away I found that our EZ just been occupied by the PLA and HQ say they won't land our bird there if the LZ is to hot. So I need to clear that place first. At this point you usually get a checkpoint, but since I don't follow the Way Point I don't get them. SH!T!!! So I fight these guys from a far. Snipe them one by one but unfortunately one of them shot me and I died! I have to restart again from the last checkpoint which is way way back. Then I say, ok then let's follow the road, which is a lot further then the mountain path but I got several checkpoint there. What so Open world is this game? Hmmm....

Is Operation Flash Point unplayable? I won't go that far. But indeed OP:DR is not for everyone. It's still a good game. It give you different feeling from any other FPS games on the markets. you have to plan your move carefully and observe the environment really really carefully. you never know where is the PLA might be hiding. One wrong judgment, you will be dead!

Shooting mechanic in OP:DR are quite different to from other FPS, you have to really count your distance. so when you are sniping you have to know how the distance from you to the target and you have to compensate the distance. Your binocular is really a life saving equipment here.

My Score
Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising = 6.0 / 10

Halo ODST racks impressive sales

You have seen Halo ODST awesome live action ad. You most probably played the game. So to recap, how is the sales performance of Halo ODST that a lot of people consider it as an expansion?
It is a impressive figure of 2.5 million units sold to date.
With this kind of figure, it is no way Microsoft and Bungie to stop milking into Halo universe. As a matter of fact they have a plan to further 'invest' Halo franchise into comic books, movies, novels, anime and games that span about 6 years.
So no worries for Halo fans, just prepare your wallet ready.

Update on Super Street Fighter IV

Recent interview by Yoshinori Ono from Capcom shared his plan regarding the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV.

He would like for home users to experience Arcade like tournament by adding Live match viewing from home.

Juri is not the only new fighter that coming in. Expect to see several new fighters with 'surprising fighting style' and returning characters. My hunch, Adon and Guy will be included in returning characters.

There will be new customes, however gamers won't have to rebuy customes when they get SSFIV.

Pricing parity in Europe and Asia

So I am travelling to Paris. I hope to find something for gaming. Turns out everything is expensive here. For PS3 slim, I'm aware that it is going to cost €299 and €249 for PSPgo. For games, it is really raised my eyebrow.
I checked every single games store that I came across, and every store carries a standard price.
For a new release game like FIFA 10 and Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, it gonna cost you €69.99. That's like Rp 995.000,-, almost double from where I'm from (Jakarta).
Some really old games sell like €23, but the games are about 'Heavenly Sword' old.
So, I think I'll wait until my trip back to Jakarta and buy the things I wanted.

Wii Fit with Beyonce Next?

It could be a reason to start dusting off Wii. Recent comment by Beyonce Knowles indicated that she really love Wii Fit and interested in doing her own videogames.

"I`d like to get involved in video games, since I really love Wii Fit. I think it would be a great idea to incorporate choreography, because, for me, my workout is way more fun when it involves dancing, as opposed to running on a boring treadmill," she told Spicezee.

"So I would love to do some kind of fitness game but incorporate dance and performance into it. I think a lot of women would enjoy that."

Maybe a mix between Wii Fit and Sing along? That would be nice, don't you think?

My review of my favorite console gaming website

Gamespot
A well run and solid gaming website. It includes all preview, review of all major games.
Pro:
- List all main streams gaming news. Means the news probably are the only news that you want to know, no junk news.
- Got the most preview, review of most games.
- Like the section that includes "hottest, coming soon (with release date), highest rating". You can do a quick check on upcoming good games.
- News title are pricise and to the point. You'll know right away what is it about by reading first few words.

Con:
- It does take a break on the weekend. Cause news delay sometimes, and might not be the first to publish breaking news.
- Its strength to not publish news other than mainstream news might become a weakness. You might not get news that you want.

1up.com
A gaming website used to belong to EGM until recently taken over by UGO.
Pro:
- Most of the news mostly the same with Gamespot until recently. It began to publish some exclusive and interesting news.

Con:
- Its layout and navigation might be a little bit confusing.
- News are a bit slow on the weekend.

Kotaku
Kotaku is a blog website that cover a comprehensive array of news.
Pro:
- I think Kotaku is one of the fastest gaming news.
- Cover a lot of news around gaming.

Con:
- It might contain a lot of junk news that doesn't interest you. - A bit hard to find specific news, especially old news.
- When reading in RSS feed, there is only a portion of heading that is shown. And sometimes you wouldn't know what is it because the title doesn't describe it in first few words.

The Magicbox
It is a very simple website that just summarize.
Pro:
- Cover Japanese gaming news.
- Summary of news. To the point and include only mainstream news.
- Lots of screenshot of new games.

Cons:
- Way too slow. It only update every couple days, maybe only once or twice a week. News get stale.

PSPgo sell under £200 already in UK

Some UK retailers already list £199 for PSPgo from £249 standard retail price.
With lack of UMD drive, the download only portable device's sales has been slow.
Don't know if it is a result of slow sales but what I do know for sure, £199 is still expensive, compared to $250 in US.

Sony tries to minimize junks on PSP

One of the main problem with Apple app store is you'll see so many junks games inside. It is because the entry level is so low that you often see that it is the 1000th variation of the same game.

Sony learned from Apple's app store and try to avoid it with its PSP minis games.
Though the screening process will not be as hard as full PSP games which usually involves in 2 steps process. Sony will do a simple content checking and bug fixing.

Sony hope this will speed up the process while avoiding to have 25.000 games in PSN, in which 24.000 are junks.

PSN Indonesia Review

1 October 2009 was a big day for gaming industries in Indonesia. We Finally been added to the Playstation Network by SONY Entertainment. Yes, PSN Indonesia is now LIVE!

The good thing about our very own PSN is that we can buy games from PSN with Indonesian Credit Card and Playstation Top up Card, which will be sold here in SONY Center and several gaming shop eg. "Gamespot". All the games in PSN Indonesia will be sold in Rupiah

Our PSN Indonesia have the same interface with the PSN Singapore. So those of you who have PSN Singapore before will be feel right home with PSN Indonesia.

In term of Game Selection PSN Indonesia nearly have if not all PSN Singapore have. The only thing I can find that PSN Singapore have that PSN Indonesian don't is the TOP 25 Best selling games. It is understandable since PSN Indonesia just come online.

You can Transfer Funds to PSN Indonesia in Rupiah. Selection from the smallest Rp 40,000,- to Rp 900.000,-

The Prices in PSN Indonesia are a little bit higher then PSN Singapore but still acceptable.

My Hope that PSN Indonesia will keep growing and all PS3 users here can enjoy the gaming experience like many other country has been enjoying for years.

What are you waiting for? go register now!

Belazar MOD Chip for PS3

Maybe some of you already heard the rumour about Belzar mod chip.
Belzar declared itself as a world first mod chip that can work on PS3.
It said that it will let PS3 to run bootleg games and will be available in a few months.
But a lot of skeptic comes with it. Until now there is no proof that this thing can work. Even if it can, Sony will just release a firware update, and the mod chip will be useless. Not to mention that your PS3 might get life ban from PSN and that will ruin the whole point of having PS3.
It is a terrible news for videogaming industry and Belzar.com website has been shut down. We hope that this thing will not come into frutition.

PSPgo launched, initial reaction?

PSPgo was launched yesterday worldwide except Japan. So what's the reaction? With it's already high price and no UMD, it is really hard for PSPgo to be successful. But let's take a look.
Several metacritics website already blasted PSPgo as an overpriced device with less feature. The resolution is the same, some people complained on how the controller positioned, and question been asked why is the wifi still in 802.11b.
At EB retail game shop, there was no queue at the launch, there is no sign that the device will sold out, and retailers didn't put banners to. increase the hype. It is pretty much quiet.
Further examination by users, revealed some potential problems.
Since PSPgo can't use UMD, users will depend on download games. Games like Gran Turismo PSP will take around 1 GB. Since there is no 'background download' feature ala PS3. You cannot leave your screen to play another game while downloading. To make it worse, if somehow your download is interrupted, you will have to start over. It will increase frustration for people will less reliable internet connection. Sony needs to address this very quickly.

But like yin and yang, if there are bad things, there got to be good things, right?
PSPgo is a lot more 'portable' device. With smaller and slicker size, and no UMD required means that your PSPgo is easier to carry around.
Pause feature that lets you pause the game any time, go out to XMB, listen to music, watch movies and then resume your game is very handy.
Bluetooth connection that can serve as a controller to PS3 and tether to bluetooth phone.

In conclusion, PSPgo might not be selling like hot cakes, but Sony definitely can do things to make it work. Price cut? (Hint..).

Our wait is over: Indonesia finally recognized as a serious game market.

Yesterday Sony Indonesia officially launched PS3 and PSPgo at Kelapa Gading Mal 3 as well as Indonesia's own PSN region.
It could mean nothing for a lot of people, but for gamers, it is the first time that our country finally recognized a serious gaming market. It also means that we are officially supported by Sony as a principal for PS3 and PSP devices, and we might get benefits like others such as official game launch, street date releases, etc.

What could be the reason? After so long, Indonesia hasn't even looked at for a serious gaming market. Most probably because of the alarming rate of piracy and weak IP protection. But in terms of population, Indonesia is a third biggest population in the world, and definitely has a significant gaming market. Given that Blu ray can't be pirated, it seems to be a reasonable business decision to try tap into Indonesian market.

Another valid reason is, PS3 recently reposition itself less as a gaming console, but more as a all in one entertainment device. You can see the some PS3 ads that say "it is only does everything" and saying PS3 as a gaming console, Blu ray player, and movie downloading (currently not available in Indonesia) system.
Combine with current price cut for PS3. Sony is really pushing PS3 to the world.

During the press conference with Mr Yashuda from Sony Computer Entertainment Asia (SCEA), here are the impression of Sony's answer:

- On why Sony decided to launch in Indonesia.
Sony got a lot of requests from Indonesia fan base to launch PS3 slim and PSPgo in Indonesia. And since it is a worldwide launch, Sony feels that it is the right moment to officially introduce its presence in Indonesia, which in turn to provide a better service to its customer.

- On how is Sony going to price the game in Indonesia.
Sony is definitely trying hard to supply all sorts of titles as fast and as competitive as the other countries.

- On Sony message to Indonesian fans.
Mr Yashuda saw a lot of pirated games and accessories even in this very mall, and it is killing the industry. He hoped that public will be more educated about supporting developers and console makers by not buying pirated games and accessories.  In the long term, he expects game education will become more and more popular in universities, and hope in the future local game developers can rise.
